Training
Training
Training a Blind Dog is pretty much the same as you would train a dog from being a puppy. It is
just more often than not. When a dog becomes blind it is very traumatic and can often lead to both owner and dog
wondering how to cope.
As an idea for Blind Dog Training. You can see Tess in her video below. We very much have always
told her to be careful or shouted step when she needs to go up or down.
Familiarising yourself and your Blind Dog make Training easier. Do not stop doing things just
because they are now Blind. It is hard not too molly cuddle them and stop them from banging their heads and noses.
But sometimes through training they have to bang their heads and noses a little to learn to be more careful.
Tess is very much better behaved now as a Blind Dog than she was before. She seems to understand
her limitations herself and copes amazingly well with changes. We had a a new cooker fitted the other day. It was
plonked in the middle of the kitchen. Tess just walked in and straight around it. Having a Blind Dog is just
amazing. They pick up on so much that you would never expect them too.
Tess socialises very well too and has many friends. When ever we take her to friends houses she
just jumps out of the car. She has learnt to be careful all on her own. If she is troubled her nose will hit the
ground and she will walk a little bit slower. This is all through training her and talking to her as she goes
along. She never bothers when other dogs come up to her. You tend to forget that their hearing when they become
blind is so advanced. They become like ninja's and can hear everything.
